CLEANING AND INSPECTION
1Clean driveshaft, tapered bearing and race, and pinion gear with solventDry with compressed airDO NOT allow driveshaft bearing to spin while drying2Inspect pinion gear for pitting, grooves, scoring, uneven wear andor discoloration from overheatingReplace pinion gear, if any of the above conditions are found3Inspect driveshaft needle bearing surface (area just above pinion gear splines) for pitting, grooves, scoring, uneven wear andor discoloration from overheatingReplace driveshaft and driveshaft needle bearing, if any of the preceding conditions are found4Inspect driveshaft to crankshaft splines for wearReplace driveshaft if wear is excessive5Inspect tapered bearing race for pitting, grooves, scoring, uneven wear and discoloration from overheatingReplace tapered bearing and race as set, if any of the preceding conditions are found6Inspect driveshaft for groove(s) where water pump base oil seals contact shaftReplace driveshaft if groove(s) are found
