Forward Gear Bearing Race
INSTALLATION
1Place shim(s) (retained from disassembly) into gear housingIf shim(s) were lost or new gear housing is being used, start with approximately 0.010 in(0.254 mm)2Apply light coat of Quicksilver Super Duty Gear Lubricant to forward gear bearing race bore in gear housing3Position tapered bearing race squarely over bearing bore in front portion of gear housing4Place Bearing Driver Cup (91-87120) over tapered bearing race
NOTE: used propeller shaft is recommended for use in Step 5If it is necessary, however, to use the propeller shaft that will be installed in gear housing, the propeller shaft must be disassembled(Refer to "Propeller Shaft Disassembly," preceding
5Place propeller shaft into hole in center of bearing driver cup6Install bearing carrier assembly over propeller shaft and lower it into gear housingBearing carrier acts as pilot to assure proper bearing race alignment7Thread nut onto propeller shaft to protect propeller shaft threads8Use mallet to drive propeller shaft against bearing driver cup until tapered bearing race is seated against shim(s)
