When inspecting tapered bearings, determine condition 01 rollers and inner bearing race by inspecting bearing cup for pitting, scoring, groovesuneven wear, imbedded particles andor discoloration from ovemeating Always replace tapered bearing and race as setRoller bearing condition is determined by inspecting the bearing surface of the shaft that the roller bearing supportsCheck shaft surface for pitting, scoringgroovingimbedded particles, uneven wear andlor discoloration from ovemeatingThe shaft and bearing must be replaced, if the conditions described are found Seals
As normal procedure, all a-rings and oil seals SHOULD BE REPLACED without regard to appearance To prevent leakage around oil seals, apply Loctite Grade uA" (271) to outer diameter of all oil sealsWhen using Loctite on seals or threads, surfaces must be clean and dryTo ease installation, apply 2-4-C Marine Lubricant on all a-rings Apply 2-4-C Marine Lubricant on 1.0.01 oil seals to prevent seal wearTo prevent corrosion damage after reassembly, apply Special Lubricant 101 to the cover nut threads and the thrust face (tab washer side) 01 the cover nutApply Perfect Seal or Special Lubricant 101 totheexternal bearing carrier surfaces (which contact the gear case) prior to installation DO NOT allow Perfect Seal (if used) to enter bearings or -ring area
