8Place shim (s) (retained from disassembl y) into gear housi ng driveshaft bearing bore for upper tapered bearing If shim(s) were lost or new gear housing is being usedstart with approximately .020" (.Slmm) under upper tapered bearing raceDo not place any shims under lower tapered bea ring race at this time9In stall the driveshaft assembly with races into the gear housing 10.Make an alignment mark with crayon (if not done previo usly during disassembly) approxim ately in(101.6mm) above water pump keyway on drive shaftMake corresponding mark on pinion gearWith drive shaft and pinion gear marks alignedposition marks on pinion and dri ve shaft in line with fixed reference point on gearcase -I .Edowel pinbolt ho le, etcWith pinion gear meshing with forward gear, secure pin ion gear to drive shaft with flat washer and nutFLAT SI DE OF NUT SHOU LD BE AWAY FROM PINION GEAR o

12Use socket and flex handle to hold pinion nut (pad area where flex hand le will contact gear housi ng whi le torquing nut)13Place Drive Shaft Holding Tool (91- 12362) over end of drive shaftUse torque wrench to torque pinion nut to 70 lbft (95 Nm)
