ACAUTION Propeller shaft, cam follower and shllt camIn most cases, will come out of gear housing by simply pulling outward on propeller shaftDO NOT FORCE shaft sideways or ATTEMPT TO PULL with slide hammer or any mechanical puller8Remove propeller shaft, ca follower and shift cam by pulling shaft straight out of gear housi ng(DO NOT JERK propeller shaft If propeller shaft will nol come out, proceed with Step "a" or lOb", following: aPush propeller shaft back into place against the forward gearVisua ll inspect locat io of shi ft cam by looking down shift shaft hole (illuminated with flashlight)If spli ned hole in shi ft cam is visible, reinsta ll sh ift shaft and rotate shift shaft to neutral posi ti onRem ove sh ift shaftremove propeller shaft as instructed in Step S, immediately precedingbPush propeller shaft back into place against forward gearSlide beari ng carrier back into gear housing (to support propeller shaft)Place gear housing on its left side (viewed from rear) and strike upper leading end of gear housing with rubber malletThis will di slodge the shift cam from cam follower into clearance pocket in left side of gear housingRemove bearing carrier and pull propeller shaft out of gear housingNOTE: If Step 8-b was used to remove propeller shaft, the shift cam can be ret rieved after removal of forward gearCLEANING INSPECTIONBEARING CARRIER IMPORTANT: It is recommended that all seals and" rings be replaced (as normal repair procedure) to assure effective repair1Clean bearing carrier with solvent and dry with compressed air
