Exhaust Manifold and Exhaust Cover 1Thoroughly clean exhaust manifold and exhaust cover to remove all carbon deposits and old gasket material2Inspect for grooves, cracks or distortion that could cause leakageReplace parts as necessary
HONING PROCEDURE IMPORTANT: If cylinder wall is not scored, hone cylinder just enough to deglaze wall1Hone cylinder bores following the hone manufacturer's recommendations2Measure cylinder bore frequently while honing and hone only as much as needed to "clean up" and true the boreFOLLOWING HONING 1Thoroughly clean cylinder bore with hot water and detergentScrub well with stiff bristle brush and rinse thoroughly with hot water2Clean remainder of cylinder block to remove excess material spread during honing operation3Apply light oil to cylinder walls to prevent rusting
Cylinder Bore
NOTE: Cylinder sleeve is part of the cylinder block and cannot be replaced1Inspect cylinder bore for scoring and deformation(Refer to "Measuring Cylinder Bore" following) Minor cylinder bore scoring andor deformation can usually be "cleaned up" by honing(Refer to "Honing Procedure" following) MEASURING CYLINDER BORE 1Measure ring travel of cylinder bore at three depths, (six places) by positioning measuring instrument in-line with and at right angle (90to piston pin centerline2If cylinder bore is taperedout-of-round or worn more than 0.004" (0.10mm) from standard cylinder bore diameter, replace cylinder block
