Shift Spool Assembly INSPECTION 1Clean the assembly with suitable solvent and dry the parts using compressed air
NoteIf the spool meets the above two criteria skip the disassembly and reassembly section followingNote: If the spool does not meet the above criteria proceed with the disassembly and reassembly section following SHIFT SPOOL ASSEMBLYCOMPONENT DISASSEMBLY Note: Disassembly of the shift spool is for cleaning and in spection of the internal parts due to an improperly function ing shift spool assembly or debris in the gear housing and! or shift spool assemblyIndividual components for the shift spool are not available as replacement partsIf the shift spool does not function properly (see the preceding "Shift Spool AssemblyInspection" section) and the following cleaning and adjustment procedures do not produce the desired results, it will be necessary to order new shift spool assembly1Disassemble the shift spool assembly as follows: abcdRemove and discard the cotter pinRemove the castle nut and spoolClamp the spool in vice being careful not to damage the spoolRemove the retainer by unscrewing it with pair of pliersRemove the two washers and the springInspect the shift spool assembly for damageSmall nicks and burrs may be smoothedIf any parts are damaged or worn excessively, it will be necessary to
