PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLYCOMPONENT INSPECTION 1Clean all the parts with suitable solvent and dry the parts thoroughly using compressed air, being careful not to spin bearingsInspect the sliding clutch jaws for damageJaws must not be chipped or rounded offReplace the clutch jf they areInspect the bearing suriaces on the propeller shaft where the need les of the bearing carrier needle bearing and the needles of the forward gear needle bearing rollReplace the propeller shaft if it is pitted, groovedscored, worn unevenly, discolored from overheatingor has embedded particles
Note: When accomplishing the next step, all of the parts are free to come apartWork closely over work bench to ensure that the parts are not dropped or damaged and to avoid personal injury1Remove the spring around the clutch being careful not to over-stretch it during removalIf the spring does not coil back to its normal position once it has been removedit must be replaced3
