System Components The battery charging system consists of the alternator, battery, ignition switch, starter solenoid and the wiring which connects these components
Alternator Description
The alternator employs rotor, which is supported in end Irames by ball bearings, and is driven (via pulley) at approximately 2.5 times engine speedT he rotor contains field winding that is enclosed between multiple-finger pole pieces he ends of the field winding are connected to brushes (mounted in the rear end frame) which make continuous sliding (or slipping) contact with the slip ringsThe current (flowing through the field winding) creates magnetic field that causes the adjacent fingers of the po le pieces to become alternate north and south magnetic polesA 3-phase stator is mounted directly over the rotor pole pieces and between the end framesIt consists of windings wound 1200 electrically out-of-phase on the inside of laminated coreT he windings are all connected together on one end, while the other ends are connected to fullwave rectifier bridgeThe rectifier bridge contains diodes which are arranged so that current flows from ground, through the stator and to the output terminal, but not in the opposite direction "TO Ignition Switch Alternator Battery 20 Ampere Fuse Starter Solenoid
