Left Hand Rotation 3Take the backlash readings by lightly turning the driveshaft back and forth, so as to feel the backlash between the gears, (no movement should be noticed at the propeller shaft)abcObserve the dial indicator and record the readingLoosen the indicator tool and rotate the driveshaft 90 degrees in clockwise directionRepeat step above and take and record another reading Repeat step until total of backlash readings have been taken 4Add the four readings together and divide the sum by fourThe result is the average backlashReverse Gear Average Backlash (1.86:1)
