Gear Housing Inspection
1Clean the gear housing thoroughly with suitable solvent and hard bristle brushDry the gear housing thoroughly using compressed airEnsure that all sealants, locking agents and debris are removed 2Verify the oil circulation holes in the driveshaft bore and the shift shaft hole are clear and free of debris3Inspect the gear housing for excessive corrosion, impact or any other damageExcessive damage andor corrosion requires replacement of the gear housing4Inspect the bearing carrier retainer threads in the gear housing for corrosion andor stripped threadsDamage or corrosion to the threads requires replacement of the gear housingNOTE: The upper driveshaft bearing cup is slip fit within the driveshaft bore and may show signs of movementAll other bearing cups are press fit and should should not show any signs of movement5Inspect bearing racecup contact areas for evidence of bearing cup spinningCheck that bearing cups are not loose in bearing boresA press fit type bearing bore in which the racecup is loose will require replacement of the gear housing 6Inspect for blockage in water inlet holes and the speedometer hole, clean as necessary8e careful not to enlarge the speedometer hole as this could cause erroneous speedometer readings
