Submerged Engine (Fresh Water) (Plus Special Instructions) 1R ecover engine as quickly as possible2R emove cowling3Flush exterior of outboard with fresh water to remove mud, we eds, etcD attempt to start engine if sand has entered powerhe ad, as powerhe ad will be severely damagedDisassemble powerhe ad if necessary to cle an components4R emove spark plugs and get as much water as possible out of powerhe adMost water can be eliminated by placing engine in horizontal position (with spark plug holes down) and rotating flywhe el5Pour alcohol into carburetor throats (alcohol will absorbed water)Again rotate flywhe el6Turn engine over and pour alcohol into spark plug openings and rotate flywhe el7Turn engine over (place spark plug openings down) and pour engine oil into throat of carburetors while rotating flywhe el to distribute oil throughout crankcase8Again turn engine over and pour approximately one te aspoon of engine oil into ach spark plug openingAgain rotate flywhe el to distribute oil in cylinders9R emove and cle an carburetors and fuel pump assembly10Dry all wiring and electrical components using compressed air11Disassemble the engine starter motor and dry the brush contacts, armature and other corrodible parts12R einstall spark plugs, carburetors and fuel pump13Attempt to start engine, using fresh fuel sourceIf engine starts, it should be run for at le ast one hour to eliminate any water in engine14If engine fails to start, determine cause (fuel, electrical or mechanical)E ngine should be run within hours after recovery of outboard from water, or serious internal damage may occurIf unable to start engine in this period, disassemble engine and cle an all partsApply oil as soon as possible
