4Lift crankshaft out of cylinder Crankshaft Inspection
1Inspect crankshaft to driveshaft splines for wear (replace crankshaft if necessary) 2Check crankshaft for straightness [0.003 in(0.076 mm)] maximum (replace as necessary)3Check all crankshaft bearing surfaces fo rust, water marksUneven wear andor overheating4If necessary, clean crankshaft surfaces with crocus cloth as shown
aCenter Main Bearings

IMPORTANT: If bearings are dropped DO NOT use magnet to retrieve them
5Remove lower main bearing and seal from crankshaft
5Thoroughly clean (with solvent) and dry crankshaft ball bearingRecheck surfaces of crankshaftReplace crankshaft if surfaces cannot be properly cleaned upIf crankshaft will be reused, lubricate surfaces with cycle oil to prevent rustDO NOT lubricate ball bearings at this time
