5Apply small amount of Quicksilver Bearing Assembly Lubri cant on each detent pinPosition detent pin in each detent pin hole of sliding clut ch with rou nded end of pins toward propeller shaft(Figure 4) 6Install cross pin re taining springs onto sliding clutc (Figure 5)as follow :
IMPORTANT: DO NOT over-stretch retaining springs when Installing them onto slldlng clutchaInsta lling first spring (I) Insert tang end of spring into detent pin(2) Spirally wrap spring into groove on sliding clu tch(3) Posi tion spring in groove so that straight end of spring is against the side of groovehInstall ing second spring (1) Insert tang nd of spring into the opposite detent pin that was used in Step (2) Spirally wrap spring into groove on sliding clutch in th opposite di rection that the fir st spring was wound (3) Positi on spring in groovc so that straight end of spring is against the sidc of groove and not over lapping the first spring7Place gear housing in soft jaw vise with the drive shaft ill vertical position8Coat cam pocket (Figure 6) of ca follower with Qu icksilver l3earing Assembly Lubricant9Place sh ift cam into cam pocke of ca foll ower with numbered side of cam facing up as shown in Figure 610With shift ca posi tioned as shown in Figu re 7inse rt propeller shaft thru forward gear until shaft holloms out
