Drive Shaft and Pinion Gear REASSEMBLY INSTALLATION
I Applya light coat of Quicksi lver Bearing Assembl Lubri cant onto the inside diameter of drive shaft tapered hear ing2Position drive shaft tapered bearing over crankshaft end of drive shaft with tapered end afhcaring toward cra nk shaft end of drive shaft3T hread used pinion nut onlo end of dri ve shaftLeave approx imately 1 16" (2 rnrn) of nut threads ex posedDri ve shaft threads MUST NOT extend beyond nut or thread damage could result when pressing4Place Drive Shaft Tapered Bearing Dri ve (9112364) on cra nkshaft end of dri ve shaft5Place drive shaft in press with pinion nul up; press bear ing on lO dri ve shaft until it is firm ly sealed against drive shaft shoulder6Place sh im (s) (retained from di sassembly) inlo gear 11Ous, ing drive shaft bearing boreIf shim( s) were losl new gear hou sing is being used, start with app roximately .010" (0.2S4mm)7Posit ion pinion gear in gear housing below drive shaft bore with teeth of pini on gear meshed with teeth of fo ward gear8Insert ri ve shaft into dri ve shaft bore while holdi ng pi nion gear as desc ribed in Step 7Rolate drive shaft to align and engage drive shaft splines with pinion gear splines, th en push shaft int gear9Place small amount of Loclite Crade" A" on lO threads of new pinion nutInstall washer and pinion nut on dri ve shaft wilh flat sid of nul awa from pinion gear 10Place bearing race on top of drive shaft tapered roller bearingIIAppl Quicksilve Special Lubricant 10 on threads of collar Install collar (a rea without Ihreads toward pinio gear) and tOrfllHl to SS Ibs(1(7S N.m) usi ng Collar Tool (9] .93227)(Figure12Use soc ket and flex hand le to hold pinion nut (pad area where flex handl will co ntact gcar ho using while to r luing nul )13Pla ce Dri ve Shafl Holdi ng Tool (91.12362over crank shaft nd of drive shafrUse torque wre nch 10 torque pinio nut to 70 lbsfr(95 N.m )
