BTake off screw 1Remove flywheel2Remove screw on top of arbor (long shaft with groove) as follows: AKeep shaft from turning by holding punch against pinion pinFigure 2
CPush pin half way out3Install rewind key in place of screw just removed (Special Tool NoT 2985 Figure 3Hold pin and securely tighten rewind tool4Remove pin from slot of pinion gear completely as follows:
CAUTION
Hold rewind key to keep starter spring from unwinding fastARemove pin from slotAllow spring to unwind slowly
5Remove rewind key with arbor and remove pinion gear6Remove rewind key from arbor7Take starter pinion spring off pinion gear8Remove starter rewind spring with retainer and end 9Remove hex screws secu ring upper bracketRemove stop nut, washer, and rings securing interlock connecting link to gear shift shaft leverRemove upper bracket ith remainder of interlock assemblyFigure 4Figure 2Removing Screw
