BREAKER POINTS
GeneralEng ine oper ation is greatty affected by breaker point condition and adjustment of the gapIf points are burned or badly oxidized, little or no current wUl pass, and the engine may not operate at aU If it does run, it is ikely to miss at full throttleA definite time is required for the agnetic field in the ignition coil to bu ild up to suffic ient valueIf the contact points are closed for too short time, weak spark will be produced by the coilIf points are set too wide, they will open before the primary current reaches the maxi mum valueAlways replace badly burned or itted breaker pointsA certain amount of build-op or metal transfer occurs under normal oper ating conditions; however, if this occurs too fr equently and becom es excessive, the condenser may be at fautt(See condenser Service for detailS Slightly pitted points should be done only as temporary field fix since points may tend to arc atter fili ngIf the points are oxidized, rub piece of coarse cloth between the surlacesDirty or ally points can be cleaned with cloth but make sure no particles of lint are left on point su rlac esR.moval
