make contact with the floor, release your gripThe pulley will fall and the spring will be released from the housing, but the three legs will contain the spring and prevent it from traveling across the roomIf the spring was not released from the housing, the only safe method is to again make contact with the three legs on the floor and jar the spring free1- Unwind the rope out of the pulley grooveNotice the pin next to the knot in the rope and how the rope feeds BEHIND the pinPull the knot and the rope out far enough to untie the knot, and then pull the rope free of the pulleyCLEANING AND INSPECTING

If the rope was broken and the spring is bent backward, as shown in the accompanying illustration, it is simple matter to bend the spring end back to its normal positionThe next illustration clearly shows spring end properly positioned in the housingWash all parts except the rope in solvent and then blow them dry with compressed air, Remove any trace of corrosion and wipe all metal parts with an oil dampened clothInspect the ropeReplace the rope if it appears to be weak or frayedIf the rope is frayed, check the hole through which the rope passes for rough edges or burrsRemove the rough edges or burrs with file, and polish the surface until it is smoothInspect the starter spring end loopsReplace the spring if it is weak, corroded or crackedCheck the spring pin located at
