ATOP FLYWHEEL NO RETURN SPRINGS A safe method is for one person to remove the hog rings while an assistant holds the springAfter the rings have been removed, both persons work to unwrap the spring, one coil at-a-time1- Slide the spring onto the outer pin and then start the spring from the outside edge of the housing and insert it into the housing COUNTERCLOCKWISE, as shown in the accompanying illustrationNotice the small hump in the housingThis hump prevents the spring from being wound in the wrong directionWork the first turn into the housing, and then hold the spring down with one hand and continue to wind the spring into the housingPatience and time are required to work the spring completely into the housingAfter the last portion is in place, bend the end of the spring towards the center of the housingThis position will allow the pulley pin to align with the loop in the end of the spring, when the pulley is installed2- Lower the pulley down over the top of the spring with the pulley pin indexing into the loop in the end of the springIn the accompanying illustration, notice the callout for the boss on the backside of the pulleyThe pin is located directly under the bossThe boss can, therefore, be guide during pulley installation3- Coat the spindle with thin film of OMC Type lubricantPlace the wavy washer onto the spindle4- Slide the friction ring onto the spindle with the flats in the washer indexed with the flats on the spindle
