MANUAL SHIFT HP TO 25 HP 23- If the lower unit being serviced uses pin on the top of the driveshaft, install the pin at this timeShift the lower unit into FORWARD gear and at the same time rotate the propeller shaft CLOCKWISEThe lower unit assembling is now complete and ready to mate with the exhaust housingLOWER UNIT lNSTALLA TION GOOD WORDS If the unit being serviced uses the shift rod coupler arrangement either through the window or before the lower unit and exhaust housings are fully mated, these words are extremely criticalConnecting the shift rod with the coupler is not an easy task but can be accomplished as follows: First, notice the cutout area on the end of the shift rodThis area permits the bolt to pass through the coupler, past the shift rod, and into the other side of the couplerIt is this bolt that holds the shift rod in the couplerNow, in order for the bolt to be properly installed, the cutout area on the shift rod MUST be aligned in such manner to allow the bolt to be properly installedTherefore, as the lower unit is mated with the exhaust housing, exercise patience as the two units come together, to enable the bolt to be installed at the proper timeIf the rod is allowed to
