LOWER UNIT

If the engine is the type requirmg the lower unit to be lowered slightly to gain access to the shift rod: Lower the lower unit slightly, and then hold the shift rod with pair of pliers and attempt to move the shift lever on the starboard side of the engineIf the lever can move, the bellcrank is damaged and must be repaired2- Disconnect the shift cable at the engineAttempt to shift the unit into forward gear with the shift lever on the starboard side of the engine and at the same time rotate the propeller in an effort to shift into gearShift the control lever at the control box into forward gearMove the shift cable at the engine up to the shift handle and determine if the cable is properly alignedThe control lever may have jumped tooth on the slider or on the shift lever arcIf tooth has been jumped, the cable would lose its adjustment and the unit would fail to shift properlyIf the inner cable should slip on the end cable guide, the adjustment would be lost3- Move the shift lever at the engine into the neutral position and the shift lever at the control box to the neutral positionNow, move the shift cable up to the shift lever and see if it is alignedShift the unit into reverse at the engine and shift the control lever at the control box into reverseMove the cable up and see if it is
