selector bracketMove the bracket forward or aft until the buttons can be depressedTo adjust the friction knob under the shift box, turn the knob clockwise to increase friction and counterclockwise to decrease friction7-7 CABLE END ATTING INSTALLATION AT THE ENGINE END FIRST, THESE WORDS In the early days, the throttle and shift cables were installed using non-adjustable trunionsThe trunions were installed on the ends of the cables and formed the connection for the cables to the engineThe inner cable (wire) moved in both directions inside the outer cable and actuated the mechanism at the engineThe anchor on the engine, to which the trunion is attached, has "P" and an "S" stamped on the inside diameter or inside edge of the trunion retainersThese letters identified PORT and STARBOARDAs improvements and refinements were incorporated over the years, new cables and trunions became adjustable through the trunionThe non-adjustable unit is totally obsolete and no longer availableTherefore, if the old-style cable with the non-adjustable trunion requires replacement, the new adjustable type will be installedWhen the new cable and trunion are to be installed, new trunion retainer MUST be purchased and installed port and starboard
