DISASSEMBLING GOOD WORDS On Johnson units, friction screw is installed in the bottom side of the shift boxThis screw allows friction adjustment of the throttle handleThis arrangement prevents the throttle handle from "creeping" after the operator releases his grip on the handleThe box has maximum advance screwThe adjustment is made through movement of screw in the warmup leverIf the engine shuts down when the throttle lever is moved back, then an adjustment must be made atthe engineThis is accomplished through an adjustment knob at the engineMovement of this knob will actually lengthen or shorten the cable slightly for proper operation1- Remove the attaching screws; pull the shift box clear; and then disconnect the shift wire under the dashRemove the screws from the back side of the box2- CAREFULLY separa te the two halvesCheck the shift box for salt water corrosion, worn bushings, and general condition
