POWERHEAD

If servicing the 9.5 hp or 10 hp engine, the hole in the upper and lower main bearing MUST index into the pin in the cylinder blockSome engines may have lining arrangement as listed in the heading of this sectionThe lining is made in two partsInstall the liner half into the rod, then install the bearings as described in the next paragraphThe matching liner is to be installed into the rod capCoat the rod half, of the bearing area, with needle bearing greaseNeedle bearing grease MUST be used because other types of grease will not thin out and dissipateThe grease must dissipate to allow the gasoline and oil mixture to enter and lubricate the bearingIf needle bearing grease is not available, use good grade of petroleum jelly (Vasoline)Load the rod half of the rod bearing with needle bearingsNext, bring the rod up to the crankshaft rod journalCoat the crankshaft journal with needle bearing greasePlace the needle bearings around the crankshaft jounalPosition the rod cap, with the liners (if used) over the needle bearingsInstall the rod cap bolts and lockwasher s, Bring the bol ts up fingertight, and then just bit moreIf the liners are used, the cap and rod automatically align properlyIf liners are not used, dowel pin is installed in the rod capThis pin will index into hole in the rod for proper alignmentTighten the rod cap bolts alternately and evenly in three rounds to the torque value given in the Specifications in the AppendixTighten the bolts to 12 the torque value on the first round, to 34 the torque value on
