CYLINDER the ring has small cutout on the inside circumferenceNow, visualize the ring installed in the piston grooveThe ring ends must straddle the pin installed in each piston grooveAs the ring is tightened around the piston, the ends will begin to come togetherWhen the piston is installed into the cylinder bore, the two ends of the ring will come together and the cutout edge will be up against the pinFor this reason, CARE must be exercised when installing the rings onto the piston and when the piston is installed into the cylinderInstall only the bottom ring into the bottom piston grooveDo not expand the ring any further than necessary, to prevent it from breakingInstall the ring into the piston groove with the ends of the ring straddling the pin in the grooveThe ring ends MUST straddle the pin to prevent the ring from rotating during engine operationIn two-cycle engine, if the ring is permitted to rotate, at one point the opening between the ring ends would align with either the intake or exhaust port in the cylinder, the ring would expand very slightly, catch on the edge of the port, and BREAKCAREFULLY insert the rod and the piston skirt down into the cylinderGOOD WORDS The following four areas must be checked at this point in the assembling work BLOCK
