Wash metal components in solvent and dry with compressed airInspect the rewind spring for broken end loops and weak tensionExamine the starter pawl for wearInspect the starter components for wearReplace as necessaryInspect starter ropeReplace rope if frayedCut new rope 96.5 in(245 cm) in lengthFuse ends of rope to length of 12 in(12 mm)Examine the pulley and the starter housingLook for sharp edges and rough surfaces that could fray the starter ropeFile and polish to removeExamine the starter and starter lockout partsReplace any worn or damaged parts
