GEARCASE GEARCASE ASSEMBLY the driveshaft bearing housingDo not coat inside bearing housing bore surface of the gearcaseLightly coat the threads of new pinion nut with outboard lubricantUse Pinion Nut Starting Tool, PN 320675, to install nut on the driveshaftTurn the driveshaft by hand to thread the nut on to shaft
Adjust shift rod to move clutch dog as far forward as possibleBe sure excess grease is removed from the pinion bearing
IMPORTANT: The inside taper of the pinion
gear and the driveshaft taper MUST be completely free of greaseClean the tapers with Cleaning SolventUse shop towel free of grease and lintPlace the pinion gear into the gearcaseInsert the driveshaft into the gearcase and through the pinion gearUsing Driveshaft Seal Protector, PN 312403, slide the driveshaft bearing housing onto the driveshaft and into position in the gearcaseAlign the embossed word "FRONT" toward the shift rodDo not install screws at this time
