DO NOT run outboard without water supply to the outboard's cooling systemCooling system andor powerhead damage could occur
IMPORTANT: DO NOT perform break-in using
a flushing deviceDO NOT start-up or run the engine out of waterDO NOT leave running engine unattendedDuring the break-in, check water pump operation oftenLook for steady stream of water from the water pump indicatorIf the stream of water stops, shut off the engine to prevent damageFind and correct the cause before continuingChange the RPM oftenAvoid holding throttle setting longer than 15 minutesCheck the crankcase oil level oftenAdd oil if neededFirst 10 minutes of operation Operate engine in gear at idle onlyBalance of First hours of operation Operate in gear below 3000 RPM or 12 throttle onlyWith easy planing boats, use full throttle to quickly accelerate boat onto planeImmediately reduce throttle to one-half as soon as the boat is on planeBE SURE boat remains on plane at this throttle settingThird hour of operation Run the engine in gear at various speeds up to 4000 RPM or 34 throttle onlyBalance of first 10 hours of operation Run the engine in gear at various engine speeds including full throttle, but remain at full throttle no longer than minutesChange the engine speed every 15 minutesDO NOT exceed recommended maximum engine RPMRefer to TECHNICAL DATA on p16
