POWERHEAD PISTON, CYLINDER, AND CRANKSHAFT Connecting Rod Bearings Inspect the bearing shells in the connecting rod large bores and connecting rod caps for the proper contact pattern and signs of fusion, pitting, burning, or flankingReplace any damaged bearingsPlace piece of Plastigage on the crankpin, parallel to the crankshaftDO NOT place the Plastigage over the oil hole
IMPORTANT: NEVER replace only one bearing shellBoth halves of the bearing must be replaced if either is worn or damagedCrank pin

Install the connecting rod cap to its corresponding connecting rodMake sure that the arrow mark on the cap is pointing toward the flywheel sideApply engine oil to the connecting rod boltsInstall and tighten the connecting rod cap nuts in the following manner: STEPTighten the nuts to an initial torque of 13ft.lbs(18 Nm) STEPTighten the nuts to final torque of 26 ftIbs(35 Nm)
