GEARCASE
Draining

Overheated lubricant will give the lubricant black color and burned odor&
WARNING

Internal gearcase inspection is recommended when lubricant is contaminated or shows signs of failure
Gearcase lubricant may be under pressure andor hot if plug is removed from recently operated outboardTake precaution to avoid injuryRemove the lubricant level plug, then the lubricant drainfill plugAllow the lubricant to drain from the gearcase into suitable container
Filling
Place the engine upright on level surfaceRemove the lubricant level plug and the lubricant drainfill plug Slowly fill the gearcase with EvinrudelJohnson HPF PRO gearcase lubricant until it appears at the oil level holeFilling the gearcase too quickly can cause air pockets within the gearcase, causing the gearcase to not fill completelyThe gearcase oil capacity is approximately floz(230 ml)Clean the plug seal areaInstall and tighten the lubricant level plug with new seal, then install and tighten the lubricant drainfill plug with new seal
