IGNITION IGNITION TESTS Crank the engine and observe the meter readingResults: Meter should indicate 180 volts or higher

IMPORTANT: Make all running tests at RPM where the intermittent or high speed ignition problem existsThe correct RPM can have an effect on identifying the problemSet peak-reading voltmeter to "pas" and "500 Twist and pull the primary lead off the ignition coilTurning in clockwise direction, attach terminal extender to the primary terminal of the coilReconnect primary lead to terminal extenderRoute all tester leads so they do not interfere with moving engine partsConnect meter black lead to clean engine groundStart outboard and run at RPM where problem existsHold the meter red lead against metal part of the coil extenderDo not hold metal part of meter lead when engine is operatingObserve meter reading Stop the engine
