POWERHEAD CYLINDERCRANKCASEPISTON ASSEMBLY Remove rod and cap from crankpin Measure the compressed Plastigage at its widest pointMeasure the crankshaft journal outside diameter in the thrust and axial directions at two positions as shown:
Connecting rod big end oil clearance: Standard: 0.0010 to 0.0018 in(0.025 to 0.045 mm) Service limit: 0.0025 in(0.063 mm) If measurement exceeds service limit, replace connecting rod andor crankshaft
Check for the following: Difference of the measurements at two positions (Taper) Difference between the thrust and axial measurements (Out-of-round)Crankshaft journal outside diameter: Standard: 1.2594 to 1.2598 in(31.989 to 32.000 mm) Taper and Out-of-round: Service limit: 0.0004 in (0.010 mm) If measurement exceeds service limit, replace crankshaftCheck main bearing conditionIf pitting, flaking, burning, or excessive wear is found, replace both upper and lower halves
