Running outboard too fast (Overspeeding)
"Too fast" means running faster than outboard normally runs on boatRunning too fast can happen when: 1) Using flushing device Turn on water before starting outboardKeep engine speed below 2000 RPMWith no load, outboard will run too fast very easilyWear eye protectors
2) Running with the wrong test wheeL
This may happen if outboard runs too fastUse the right test wheel
Running outboards: Exhaust fumes
DO NOT run the engine indoors or without adequate ventilation or permit exhaust fumes to accumulate in confined areasEngine exhaust contains carbon monoxide which, if inhaled, can cause serious brain damage or death Whenever running the engine, assure there is proper ventilation to avoid the accumulation of carbon monoxide (CO), which is odorless, colorless, and tasteless, and can lead to unconsciousness, brain damage, or death if inhaled in sufficient concentrationsCO accumulation can occur while docked, anchored, or underway, and in many confined areas such as the boat cabin, cockpit, swim platformand headsIt can be worsened or caused by weather, mooring and operating conditions, and other boatsAvoid exhaust fumes from the engine or other boats, provide proper ventilation, shut off the engine when not needed, and be aware of the risk of backdrafting and conditions that create CO accumulationIn high concentrations, CO can be fatal within minutesLower concentrations are just as lethal over long periods of timeU
