MANUAL STARTER INSTALLTION If removed, install the starter handle bracket to the starter housingMake sure to place the washers between the rubber mounts of the starter handle bracket and the starter housingTighten the shoulder screws securelyCheck operation of the starter pawl when the starter rope is pulled outThe starter pawl should extend when the starter rope is pulled and retract when the starter rope recoilsInstall the starter lockout lever, lockout lever springs (lower tang of upper spring resting on casting), and thick washer to the starter housingPlace the thin washer under head of the screw and tighten securelyInstall pulley support and screwApply Nut Lock to threads and torque to 60 to 84 inIbs(7 to 9.5 Nm)

If necessary, tie knot in one end of the starter ropeWith the starter housing upside down on bench, wind the pulley counterclockwise until the rewind spring is tightBack off the rewind spring until the rope cavity of the pulley is aligned with the rope guideThread the starter rope through the pulley, rope guide, and outlet in the starter handle bracketSeat the knotted end of the starter rope in the pulleyTie slip knot in the starter rope to hold rope in positionApply Tripe-Guard grease or Lubripate 777 to the handle end of the starter ropeUsing Starter Rope Threading Tool, PIN 378774, thread the starter rope through the handlePress the starter rope into the channel of the rope anchor, with end of starter rope butting firmly against end of channelPress the anchor into the handle1Starter lockout lever 2Springs 3Washer 4Starter lockout lever screw 5Pulley support with screw
