TRIM AND TILT ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT TESTS
40 Relay Tests
The 40 relays provide the high amperage connections for the electric motor of the trim and tilt system
Terminal 85 86
Function Switch control, input voltage (+ or -) to internal coil Switch control, input voltage (+ orto internal coil Input to internal switch Output from internal switch, normally open Output from internal switch, normally closed
STEP Connect 12 source to the relay terminals 85 and 86 to activate relayUse an ohmmeter calibrated on high ohms scale or continuity light to test for continuity on relay terminals 87 and 30 The meter must indicate continuity
STEPS Leave the 12 source connected to terminals 85 and 86Connect meter leads to relay terminals 87a and 30 The meter must not indicate continuityIf results vary, replace the relay
Relay terminals 87 and 30 are considered "normally open No continuity occurs until the relay is activatedThe relay activates when power is supplied to the coil of the relay
