FUEL SYSTEM FUEL SYSTEM TESTS Results: Pumps fuel from hose(s), the primer pump is good Fails to pump fuel from hose(s), make sure the hose is not kinked or restricted If the primer pump still does not pump fuel go to STEP 2
Fuel Pump Pressure Test
Perform this test with the outboard in test tank or on the boatBefore testing, loosen fuel tank gas cap momentarily to release any pressure that may have built upFuel tank must not be more than 30 in(76 cm) below fuel pumpRemove carburetor to fuel pump hoseConnect fuel pressure gauge between the carburetor and fuel pump
STEP Remove hose at small nipple on top side of primer pumpInspect hose for kinks or obstructions to flow
Operate primer pump knobFuel must squirt from small nippleResults: Fails to pump fuel, inspect inlet hose between primer pump and carburetor for kinks and obstructions If inlet hose is open and not kinked, remove and service primer pumpRefer to PRIMER PUMP on p147 If primer pump is externally leaking, replace the -ringsRefer to PRIMER PUMP on p147
