GEARCASE ASSEMBLY6 Coat both sides of new gearcase cover gasket with Adhesive sealantInstall the gasket and coverApply Nut Lock to the cover screws and tighten the screws to torque of 60 to 80 inIbs(7 to Nm)Install the forward gear by positioning it in the gearcaseInsert the propeller shaft into the forward gearPull up sharply on the shaft until the forward gear snaps into positionRemove the propeller shaft

Position one pinion thrust washer on the pinionOil and install the thrust bearingInstall the other thrust washer on the pinion
Slide the shifter spring into the propeller shaftInstall the clutch dog onto the propeller shaft with the words "PROP END" facing toward the aft end of the shaftAlign the hole in the clutch dog with the slot in the propeller shaftCompress the shifter spring with Shifter Clutch Dog Spring Depressor, PIN 390766, and install the clutch dog pin and new retaining springInspect the spring for overlapping or loose coils and replace if necessary
