GEARCASE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Place the shift lever into FORWARD gearLubricate the driveshaft splines with Moly LubeDo not coat the top surface of the driveshaft as lubricant here may prevent seating of the driveshaft in the crankshaft
Pull up on the shift rod and engage REVERSE gearMove the shift lever on the outboard to REVERSE position Lightly apply Triple-Guard grease to lower outside diameter of the water tubeInstall the gearcase onto the exhaust housingGuide the water tube into the water tube grommet and see that the driveshaft engages the crankshaftRotate the flywheel, if necessaryMake sure the upper shift rod enters the shift rod connectorAlign the groove in the lower shift rod with the screw hole in the connectorApply Gasket Sealing Compound to shift rod connector screwInstall and tighten the screw with washer to torque of 60 to 84 inIbs(7 to Nm)Driveshaft splines

Lightly apply Triple-Guard grease to lower outside diameter of the water tubeInstall the gearcase onto the exhaust housingGuide the water tube into the water tube grommet and see that the driveshaft engages the crankshaftRotate the flywheelif necessaryApply Nut Lock to threads of the gearcase and extension screwsInstall the gearcase retaining screwsTighten the front screw to torque of 120 to 144 inIbs(14 to 16 N'm) and the two rear screws to torque of 60 to 84 inIbs(7 to Nm)
