Wear safety glasses while disassembling and assembling manual starters to avoid personal injury caused by rewind spring tensionPull rope out completely and retain pulley in position with Stop Tool from Starter WinderInstaller Kit, PIN 342682Remove rope from pulley channel, untie knot, and remove rope from starter assemblyRemove stop tool and slowly unwind pulley until tension is releasedRemove retaining ring, pawl, and linkage
Do not remove spring with housing facing upDo not lift spring out of housing by hand or with pliersSpring is under tension and will cause injury if accidentally Keep fingers away from uncoiling springTurn starter housing over and jar on bench to remove spring
