Remove the starter lockout cable clamp and disconnect cable from the shift lever detent
WARNINGTo prevent accidental starting while servicing, twist and remove all spark plug leadsRemove the starter assemblyRefer to MANUAL STARTER sectionRemove three screws and remove the starter ratchet from the flywheel dome1Starter lockout cable clamp 2Shift lever detent
Remove screw securing shift lever to tiller handle bracketLoosen grommet surrounding the shift rod from the lower motor coverEntire shift linkage will be lifted from the outboard along with the powerheadRatchet screws
