GEARCASE ASSEMBLY3.5 Lubricate, then install the driveshaftRotate the shaft to engage the pinion gearInstall the propeller shaft assembly
Install the water pumpRefer to WATER PUMPTo assemble the propeller shaft components, place the clutch spring between the gear and the shaftThe tang end of the spring faces the gearAssemble by turning the gear counterclockwise while pushing the shaft and the gear together
Wrap single layer of cellophane tape around the end of the propeller shaft to cover the groove in the shaftThis will protect the seals in the bearing housing from damage during assembly
