POWERHEAD ASSEMBLY68 If removed, lubricate inside of new crankshaft sealsleeve with isopropyl alcoholSupport the crankshaft between the two lower counterweightsPress on crankshaftsleeves facing away from the flywheelSecure the sleeves together with the retaining ring
Flywheel end of crankshaft Retaining ring
If removed, press on new lower main bearingSupport the crankshaft between the two lower counterweightsInstall the retaining ring with flat side facing outOil and install the upper main bearing with lettering facing downApply Gasket Sealing Compound to outside diameter of new main bearing sealPlace the seal onto the crankshaft with lip facing downOil and install new seal ring into the groove in the center of the crankshaft
Oil the crankshaft and place into cylinder blockOrient seal ring gap facing upBe certain to align upper main bearing dowel with crankcase recess Align center main bearing dowel pin hole with dowel pin in cylinder blockPosition the rods on the crank pins at this timeMove the pistons up so the connecting rod bearings are against the crankpinPlace one bearing half between crankpin and rod and one on top of crankpinOrient and place the connecting rod cap on the needle bearingsOil threads of the rod cap screwsInstall and tighten the screws in stages to final torque of 60 to 70 in Ibs(7 to 7.5 Nm)Thoroughly clean and degrease the crankcase mating flange of the cylinder block with Cleaning Solvent and let air dry
