IGNITION IGNITION COIL TESTS Calibrate ohmmeter on appropriate scaleConnect meter red lead to coil primary terminalConnect meter black lead to coil spark plug terminal
Power Test Procedure
The ignition coil is tested with normal polarity connectionsConnect tester red lead to the primary terminal of the coil and the tester black lead to the ground tabConnect the high tension lead of the tester to the coil spark plug lead
1Primary terminal 2Ground tab 3Coil spark plug lead

RESULTS Meter must show 275 50 ohms

Test spark plug leads for continuityCalibrate ohmmeter on low ohms scaleAttach one ohmmeter lead to each spring terminalWhile wiggling both spark plug covers and entire length of the spark plug lead, the resistance should remain near zeroReplace spark plug lead if your test results vary
A steady spark, in the tester at or before maximum specified amperage, indicates good coilRefer to Ignition Coil Specifications
