IGNITION SAFETY INFORMATION
SAFETY INFORMATION
Before working on any part of the outboard, first read the SAFETY section at the end of this manual
COMPONENTS
Flywheel
The flywheel contains permanent magnets which energize the charge coil, sensor coiland alternator statorOnce the flywheel exceeds minimum cranking RPM, the flywheel's magnetic lines of force pass through the ignition plate components to produce voltage in those circuits

WARNING

Use caution when conducting tests on running enginesDo not wear jewelry or loose clothingTwist and remove all spark plug leads to avoid accidental startingMake sure ignition and electrical wires are routed and clamped in original position, away from rotating parts, which could cut or abrade wire insulationKeep all electrical connections clean, tight, and insulated to prevent shorting or arcing and causing an explosion

SPARK PLUG INFORMATION
The spark plugs must be removed and examinedA spark plug must be replaced if the electrodes are badly worn, if it has cracked insulator, or is badly fouledBefore installing the spark plug lead cover on the spark plugapply light coating of Electrical Grease to the ribbed portion of the spark plug ceramic and to the opening of the spark plug coverThis will help prevent corrosion between the spring terminal and the spark plug which can cause high tension arcing
