17Inspect the driveshaft bearing in placeIf necessary, remove the bearing and sleeve using the slide hammer and OMC Two-Jaw Puller, PI 391012The jaws of the puller must be reversed so the jaw tips are facing inwardUse stiff rubber band to keep the jaws together18Inspect the pinion bearings in placeIf necessary, remove the bearings using OMC Bearing Remover, PIN 319880Place shop cloth inside the gearcase to catch the bearings and toolIf pinion bearings are removed for any reason, they must be replaced19Temporarily install the gearcase head into the gearcase with the two screws, finger tightUsing OMC Small Puller Assembly, PI 432131, remove propeller shaft sealinstalling the puller on the seals, be sure the jaws catch the seals and not the bushing in the gearcase head20Remove the driveshaft seals from the gearcase cover using OMC Puller Bridge, PIN 432127, and OMC Small Puller, PI 43213121Remove the shift rod bushing from the gearcase cover by prying it out with the shift rodRemove and discard O-ring
