Disassembly 1To service lockout assembly, remove the retaining pin
[] 2Remove the plunger, spring, tappet, and cam from the housing
safety glasses while disassembling and assembling manual starters because of rewind spring tension
[] 3Pull rope out completely and retain pulley in position with stop tool (Kit, PIN 342682)4Remove rope from pulley channel, untie knot and remove rope from starter assembly5Remove stop tool and slowly unwind pulley until tension is released[6Remove retaining ring, pawl, and linkage
7Remove the starter spindle screw and locknutHold the pulley down in housing and lift out spindleCarefully lift out pulley, leaving spring in housinghousing facing upDo not lift spring out of housing by hand or with pliersSpring is under tension and will cause injury if accidentally released
