Shimming adjustments are required anytime major component such as gearcase, gear, bearing, or shaft is replaced
1Measure thickness of original forward shim and install shim of same thickness, or nominal shim from shim kitRefer to Gearcase Shims and Thrust WashersLightly oil and install forward gear shim and bearing outer race 2Lightly oil inside surface of new tapered roller bearing with OMC Ultra-HPF gearcase lubeUsing OMC Bearing Installer, PI 345824, press bearing onto forward gear until fully seated3Lightly coat the gear teeth with Gear Marking Compound, PI 772666Install forward gear
4Assemble conical bearing and raceselected shim CD (see Driveshaft Shimming), and driveshaft seal housing to driveshaftLettered side of outer race must face up
