Engine Oil System Operation The oil system is completely mechanical; there is no ECU controlA camshaft-driven oil pump and screened pickup mount to the underside of the adapterIt draws oil from the oil reservoir and pumps it past the pressure regulator to the filterFiltered oil travels up the main galley to the crankshaft journals, rod journals, wrist pins, and cylinder wallsExcess oil returns to the reservoir through hole in the bottom of the blockFiltered oil also flows through passage along the bottom of the block to the cylinder headOil enters the base of the rocker arm shafts, and flows out of holes to lubricate the camshaft journals, rocker arms, and cam lobesExcess oil returns to the reservoir through hole in the bottom of the head

A switch linked to the ECU monitors the oil system to prevent engine damage due to loss of oil pressureAn oil level gauge is located between intake runners #3 and #4 at the port rear of the engineAn oil fill cap is on the cylinder head cover, and the oil drain plug is at the lower port front of the oil reservoir
