22 Lightly apply avIC Gasket Sealing Compound to the gearcase area that contacts mounting flange of the bearing housingDo not coat inside bearing housing bore surface of the gearcase
23Using avIC Driveshaft Seal Protector, PI 318674, slide the driveshaft bearing housing onto the driveshaft24Pull up on the shift rod to engage FORWARD gearTurn the gearcase upside down by rotating the holding fixtureBe sure any excess grease is removed from the pinion needle bearingsDegrease inside taper of the pinion Position the pinion in the gearcase25Degrease the driveshaft taper and install the driveshaftTurn the gearcase right side up26Lightly coat the threads of the pinion nut with outboard lubricant and install on the driveshaft using avIC Pinion Nut Starting ToolPI 342216Turn the driveshaft by hand to engage the nutRemove the pinion nut starting tool before applying torque to pinion nut
