13Reach inside the gearcase and remove the pinion and pinion nutRemove any loose needle bearings that might interfere with removal of the forward gear
14Push down on the shift rod to engage REVERSE gearUnthread the shift rod from the detent leverRemove the six screws, shift rod, and cover assembly from the gearcaseDiscard the cover gasketRemove the two O-rings from inside the cover and discard15Remove the propeller shaft assembly from the gearcaseCOA3560
16Insert small screwdriver under one end of the clutch dog spring and remove it from the groove by unwrapping it from around the clutch dogDiscard the spring17Push the pin out of the clutch dogThe bearing housing assembly will now pull out of the end of the propeller shaft, and the clutch dog will slide off the splines18Pull the forward gearthrust bearingand thrust washer off the bearing housing19Push down on the detent lever to make sure it's in the most depressed positionLift out the shift shaft and cradle
